Frequently Asked Questions

1. Important information if you have a medical condition + -

MEDICAL CONDITIONS

If any of the below apply to you, consult your physician prior to sauna use:

  • Cardiovascular Issues, Obesity or Diabetes – Individuals suffering from obesity or with a  medical history of heart disease, low or high blood pressure, circulatory problems, or diabetes  should consult a physician prior to use. Heat stress increases cardiac output and blood flow in  an effort to transfer internal body heat to the outside environment via the skin (perspiration) and  respiratory system. This takes place primarily due to major changes in the heart rate, which has  the potential to increase by thirty (30) beats per minute for each degree increase in core body  temperature.
  • Medications – Individuals who are using prescription drugs should seek the advice of their  personal physician since some medications may induce drowsiness, while others may affect heart  rate, blood pressure and circulation. Diuretics, barbiturates, and beta-blockers may impair the  body’s natural heat loss mechanisms. Anticholinergics, such as amitriptyline, may inhibit sweating  and can predispose individuals to heat rash or to a lesser extent, heat stroke. Some over-the counter drugs, such as antihistamines, may also cause the body to be more prone to heat stroke.
  • Alcohol & Drug Abuse – Contrary to popular belief, it is not advisable to attempt to “sweat  out” a hangover. Alcohol intoxication decreases a person’s judgment; therefore, he/she may not  realize when the body has a negative reaction to high heat. Alcohol also increases the heart rate,  which may be further increased by heat stress. The use of alcohol, drugs, or medications prior to  a sauna session may lead to unconsciousness.
  • Elderly – The ability to maintain core body temperature decreases with age. This is primarily due  to circulatory conditions and decreased sweat gland function. The body must be able to activate its  natural cooling processes in order to maintain core body temperature. If elderly, operate at a lower  temperature and for no more than 15 minutes at a time.
  • Children – The core body temperature of children rises much faster than adults. This occurs due  to a higher metabolic rate per body mass, limited circulatory adaptation to increased cardiac de mands, and the inability to regulate body temperature by sweating. When using with a child, oper ate at a lower temperature and for no more than 15 minutes at a time.
  • Chronic Conditions / Diseases Associated with Reduced Ability to Sweat or Perspire – Multiple  Sclerosis, Central Nervous System Tumors, and Diabetes with Neuropathy are conditions that are  associated with impaired sweating. Consult a physician.
  • Hemophiliacs / Individuals Prone to Bleeding – The use of infrared saunas should be avoided by  anyone who is predisposed to bleeding.
  • Fever & Insensitivity to Heat – Individuals with insensitivity to heat or who have a fever should not  use the sauna until the fever subsides.
  • Pregnancy – Pregnant women should consult a physician before using an infrared sauna.
  • Menstruation – Heating of the low back area of women during the menstrual period may tempo rarily increase menstrual flow. This should not preclude sauna use.
  • Joint Injury – Recent (acute) joint injury should not be heated for the first 48 hours or until the swol len symptoms subside. Joints that are chronically hot and swollen may respond poorly to vigorous  heating of any kind.
  • Implants – Metal pins, rods, artificial joints, or any other surgical implants generally reflect infra red waves and thus are not heated by this system. Nevertheless, you should consult your physi cian prior to using.
  • Pacemakers / Defibrillators – The magnets used to assemble our saunas can interrupt the pacing and  inhibit the output of pacemakers. Please discuss with your doctor the possible risks this may cause.

In the rare event that you experience pain or discomfort, immediately discontinue sauna use.

2. Why an Infrared Sauna? + -

Historically saunas have been used for detoxification for centuries in a variety of cultures:

• Aboriginal and Native American sweat lodges, Mexican and Guatemalan temazcals, Finnish cultural practice, European steam rooms Sauna Therapy has long been recommended by practitioners in alternative health circles because of its known power to remove heavy metals and other environmental toxicants, including mold, plastics, and other chemicals that have become part of modern life. Sauna therapy has also been part of
many drug rehabilitation programs because of its known help in the detoxification process for certain
drugs as well.

Today’s clients want to make sure they’re doing all they can to feel good and live as healthy as possible. Heat and sweat alone have been known to be beneficial for a long time. Today’s infrared saunas offer even more benefits to feel good about.

3. What are the differences between traditional and infrared saunas? + -

Traditional saunas use a heat source to heat the air, and often include steam to create humidity as well. Fire and hot rocks were common sources of heat; modern saunas use a heater or steam generator to create the temperature increase.

Traditional saunas heat the air to a point that initiates the body’s natural cooling process. This means blood comes to the surface of the skin and opens the pores. Infrared saunas emit lightwaves that penetrate the body to stimulate the health benefits from within at a cellular level.

The Sunlighten mPulse® Smart Sauna is unique among infrared saunas because it is the only one with advanced 3 in 1® heating technology, integrated with red light, that allows you to customize each red light/near, mid, and far wavelength to optimize specific health benefits to meet your needs.

4. What is Infrared? + -

Infrared is found in nature and is necessary light for life. All living things need it to grow and flourish.

• Nature brings us infrared light. It’s the healthy, healing rays that come from the sun. You’ve felt infrared your entire life. When you sit next to a fire or feel the warmth of the sun on your skin. Infrared also helps plants bloom - just the right amount helps stems grow fast and strong.

• Sunlight is 52-55% infrared. It’s all the good parts of the sun’s healing light.
• The experience of an infrared treatment is similar to sunbathing, giving you that wonderful natural warmth. Unlike sunbathing, infrared heat therapy is completely healthy and safe. You can relax in an infrared sauna and it will never cause your skin to burn.
Infrared is part of a natural spectrum.
• Remember the first time you saw a prism transform light into a rainbow of visible light? Infrared is the invisible light just outside the prism next to red light, thus the name “infra (below)” + “red.”
• Infrared consists of 3 wavelengths: near, mid and far.
• Visible light and infrared are part of the electromagnetic spectrum, a continuum of light waves organized by how they interact with matter. Scientists explain infrared as a safe, gentle form that brings many good, healthy things to earth and human beings.
Infrared heats the body directly rather than simply heating the air.
• Infrared penetrates human tissue, and the energy it delivers is just the right nudge cells need to stimulate warmth, growth and release.
• Infrared is effective at a low, soothing temperature.
• It is completely healthy and safe for all living things. It’s even used in hospitals to warm newborn infants.

5. What makes Sunlighten infrared therapy special for our clients? + -

All infrared is not created equally.

1. Most Effective Infrared - To deliver health benefits like anti-aging, weight loss and
detoxification, saunas need to emit high concentrations of infrared waves—not just heat. For
infrared therapy to be successful, heaters must have a high emissivity level for the body to absorb
infrared energy. Emissivity is the measure of infrared that a heater emits.
Sunlighten’s patented infrared gives your clients the highest does of infrared energy into their
body. Third-party testing proved Sunlighten’s infrared to be 95-99% emissive. No other infrared
sauna delivers this level of infrared therapy.

2. Enjoyable Experience - A sauna session should not be something you have to push yourself to
complete. An extremely hot environment can make you anxious for the session to end and likely to
stop short. Worse yet, if it is that hot, you probably are not receiving the most therapeutic wavelength.
Sunlighten’s infrared creates a pleasurable sauna experience with a soothing heat that is enjoyable
for the entire session and will leave your clients feeling invigorated, light and energized.

3. Quality Sauna Cabin – The craftsmanship that goes into the construction of Sunlighten saunas
is unmatched. The sauna cabins are beautiful, durable, premium wood solidly constructed with
attention to detail that makes it a luxurious experience for your clients. Those details include extra
thick walls, invisible seams, powerful sealing system that locks in warmth, and gorgeous glass
doors. To feel even better about using Sunlighten saunas, they use environmentally responsible
sustainability practices in the selection of wood, and every part is tested and proven non-toxic.

4. Backed by Clinical Studies - One of the many differences between Sunlighten infrared saunas and
other infrared saunas is the clinical testing and studies that show the unique effectiveness, safety,
and quality of Sunlighten saunas. View the studies below at sunlighten.com/light-science/research.
The six pre-programmed health programs available only in the mPulse were created based on 56
data points from 37 different clinical studies on how infrared interacted with the body. This is a very
important and special aspect of this sauna – it provides complete whole-body light therapy.

• Detoxification - Increases core body temperature up to 3° for a deep, detoxifying sweat
• Temporarily Reduced Blood Pressure - Double-blind placebo study showed a significant reduction in
blood pressure with regular use.
• Aid in Weight Loss – Infrared sauna use reduced waist circumference in a 3-month period
• Increases Flexibility - A third-party study found that mPulse full spectrum infrared saunas increase
flexibility up to 3x, using a blend of mid and far infrared.
• Pure Infrared - 95-99% pure infrared light energy absorbed into the body

6. What are the health benefits of Infrared Sauna therapy? + -

Red light/near, mid, and far infrared wavelengths help your clients feel even more amazing after a massage or
facial, workout, or even as a stand-alone treatment. The health benefits increase with regular use over time.
They’ll select one of six health programs and know the warmth they feel is delivering what they need because
Sunlighten’s mPulse sauna delivers precise combinations of red/near, mid, and far wavelengths at the optimal
dosage for each health focus, based on clinical studies:

Detoxification
Infrared waves that penetrate at the cellular level to eliminate toxic heavy metals, drug residues, and
hormone disruptors. It also helps with lymphatic drainage and supports the body’s detox systems.
Weight Loss
Increasing core body temperature affects circulation like cardio exercise. It stimulates sluggish
metabolism and helps eliminate toxins that cause fat storage, making sauna a great support to
weight loss efforts and weight management.
Heart Health
Sunlighten’s far infrared technology has been clinically proven to temporarily reduce both systolic
and diastolic blood pressure.
Anti-aging
The near infrared LED light therapy panel helps stimulate cell growth and rejuvenate skin. Sweat also
helps skin appearance as pores open from the deeper sweat induced by our infrared light therapy.
Pain Relief
Repair muscles faster. Many professional athletes use Sunlighten saunas to recover from their
training and injuries. Infrared helps deliver more oxygen to cells for faster repair and pain relief.
Immunity
Infrared activates the immune system by raising core body temperature that mimics a fever.
Sunlighten’s infrared is proven to raise core body temperature 3 degrees.

7. What should I expect before and during my session? + -

Sauna Prep

Our saunas are based on the infrared wavelength and not cabin temperature.

  • Pre-heat your sauna for 45-60 minutes prior to scheduled appointments. Your sauna will heat up  approximately one degree per minute, depending on room temperature.
  • TIP: Your sauna has an automatic startup function (use the Reservation feature). Place a custom bench cushion and cover OR drape towels on the bench to protect the wood from sweat. Offer a sauna backrest for added comfort to your client. Cover with a towel to protect the wood.  Provide an additional hand towel for client to wipe off sweat as needed.
  • Include chromotherapy remote for client to change colors.
  • Include a Sunlighten treatment book (available in the Sunlighten marketing portal for download)  to educate client on the benefits.
  • You may opt to include a timer to alert client when their session is over.

Client Prep

  • Client should wait 60 minutes after eating a meal to allow food to digest.
  • Upon client arrival, offer at least 8 oz. of water for proper hydration and to prepare their body for  an increase in core temperature.

During Sauna Session

  • Clients should sit on a towel to absorb sweat and keep the sauna clean.
  • Set sauna to the desired temperature and set a timer for 40 minutes.

Client Experience

  • Allow client to customize their experience with chromotherapy. To control the lights, point the  remote at the control box within a 3 ft. radius.
  • Check on the client 10 minutes after treatment begins. If they are new to sauna use, it is  important to start slow as the body gets accustomed to infrared therapy.
  • Inform the client they can discontinue their treatment and exit the sauna at any time. Advise clients  to listen to their body and be aware of excessive detoxifying. If they begin to feel flu-like symptoms,  they should discontinue use immediately. If these symptoms continue, consult a physician.
  • The client should not be surprised if they do not sweat during the first few treatments. Sweating will  increase with regular use, removing toxins and leaving them feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. For added intensity, offer Pure Sweat amplifying cream to increase sweating, circulation, and to  boost results.

8. What should I expect after my session? + -

Client should drink at least 24 oz. of water or electrolyte to rehydrate.

  • Dry off with a towel and allow the body to cool down naturally.
  • Schedule next Sunlighten sauna session.
  • Using towels will keep your Sunlighten clean during regular use.
  • Once the client is finished, a staff member will use Sunlighten’s Natural Sauna Cleaner to spray  the bench down and dry with a clean cloth.

Benefits of Cryotherapy

Boost Performance, Speed up Recovery, Decrease Muscle Soreness, Improve Sleep, Increase Energy, Mood Enhancement, Reduce Inflammation, Pain Relief, Strengthen Immune System, Manage Arthritis, Improve joint function, Burn up to 500 calories, Help Hangover, Increase Collagen Production, Tighten Skin.

How it Works

When the body is exposed to extreme cold temperatures in a short period of time it triggers the body’s natural healing process. Blood will accumulate in the body’s core in order to become warmed while your blood vessels expand to allow more white blood cells to flow through your body faster which accelerates the healing process. Your brain will trigger a release of endorphins, adrenaline, and other hormones into your body which results in an increase in energy, cell rejuvenation, boosting your immune system and overall body’s natural self-healing process.

Keeping our bodies healthy is important. Physical movement, mental clarity, harmonious sleep cycles and healthy skin are all essential in order to keep us going. Cryotherapy is an alternative and complementary treatment to improve your overall health.

Cryotherapy is an amazing way to keep people feeling great. It can be used for pain relief on a regular basis. Soreness, Muscle Pain & Inflammation are just some of the many struggles that clients have been suitable to manage with Cryotherapy.

Cryotherapy is used to help our clients address their physical recovery needs. For regular gym goers, athletes or those in training for marathons, triathlons, etc, Cryotherapy can be used to help relieve chronic pain, decrease inflammation, speed recovery time, increase athletic performance, and reduce delayed onset of muscle soreness.

After transferring your body into the “fight or flight” response, Cryotherapy causes the body to work harder to heat back up again, which raises the metabolic rate and burns calories. The skin’s exposure to extreme cold causes the body to increase its metabolic rate, burning between 500 to 800 calories.

Using Cryotherapy treatment consistently, helps address seditious conditions like fibromyalgia, psoriasis, arthritis. The cold exposure from Cryotherapy enhances the body’s natural healing process to reduce inflammation caused by these conditions. Chronic pain, swelling, or stiffness caused by the body’s response to an injury can be addressed with Cryotherapy. It’s a largely recommended anti-inflammatory treatment.

Cryotherapy treatments are beneficial for everyday health, wellness, and beauty benefits. Cryotherapy is used to enhance metabolism, give a glowing complexion, and jumpstart collagen production. This cutting edge treatment can assist with reducing skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema and acne. It’s also helpful in reducing the appearance of cellulite, tightening skin, and giving you a more youthful looking skin.

Cryotherapy may be used as a complementary treatment to your mental health. The freezing cold air used in Cryotherapy causes the brain to release endorphins and other “feel-good” hormones. Because of the increased endorphins and adrenaline that is released in your body after a session, numerous clients report enhanced mood and increased energy. Since the outer layer of skin temperature is lowered, capillaries and blood vessels undergo vasoconstriction, immediately followed by vasodilation. This process causes the body to release the toxins and feel good endorphins.

After surgery, there’s a recovery period where we have to deal with bruising, swelling and the worst of all, pain. This healing process isn’t easy. Cryotherapy has proven to be an exceptional recovery result that speeds up and manages post-op stress, pain relief from an operation, reduces inflammation, boosts the vulnerable system, and more!

Cryotherapy activates the body’s natural healing and rejuvenation processes. Once skin is covered by cooling temperatures, it increases blood flow, giving our clients a youthful look, and activates collagen production, which is what gives us firm, healthy skin.

6. Is cryotherapy safe? + -

YES! Cryotherapy has been around for many years as a safe and effective therapy. The nitrogen used to cool the cryosauna is the same nitrogen that makes up the air we breathe. However, the vapor is REALLY cold and lacks oxygen. Therefore keeping your head above the chamber is very important. There are also a few precautions that need to be made to make sure everyone is safe.

7. What do I wear? + -

Please bring a pair of fresh, dry socks. You can wear gym shorts, underpants, boxers, bra. All clothing must be completely dry with no exposed metal. Ensure your skin is dry from moisturizers, oils or sweat. You must remove any metal or jewelry before entering the chamber. Earrings and anything above the neck is ok, however, anything below the neck needs to be removed or taped over. At Manchester Cryotherapy we will provide you with the protective gear you require. This includes thermal slippers & gloves to ensure the more temperature sensitive tissues such as hands and feet are well protected.

8. What should I expect? + -

360 Wellness uses the leading manufacturer of cryosaunas in the USA- Impact Cryotherapy. Our cryosauna offers consistent cooling over the body via a smart pressure technology and an advanced spray nozzle system making it safer for you. The cryotherapy session will last up to 3 minutes. When the cryosauna operator hits the start button you will begin to feel the cold, dry, nitrogen vapor surrounding you in the chamber. Throughout the 3 minutes, the operator will talk to you and guide you through any questions you may have. You will keep your chin up so as to not inhale any vapor and rotate your body as needed. The chamber features integrated software and monitoring systems to ensure your utmost safety at all times. You may hear a beeping sound every 31 seconds. This beeping sound is the cryosauna alerting the tech to click the “okay” button to ensure the session is still occurring. If the operator does not hit this “okay” button the cryosauna shuts off.
